These guys go way back. Peter Nyström and Magnus Sundström were doing muscular ebm together over ten years ago, and have stayed in close proximity of each other ever since; whether with their respective bands Megaptera and The Protagonist, or rubbing backs in Each Dawn I Die. Then it's only logical that the projects that are their main foci at the moment share this vinyl EP, Des Esseintes and Negru Voda respectively. The common denominator here spells weltschmerz, with both of them suffering the accumulated burden of existential ruminations, dead-end romantic adventures, and seasonal depression. Their modus operandi for self-healing is punishing the listeners for the angst and anger, by offering a scorching inferno of frantic rhythms and noise bursts. Take heed or get burned, but on the other hand... no pain no gain!

Italy has proved to be a stronghold for music that blend gothic ethereal moods with medieval romanticism. After Ataraxia and Gothica, Cold Meat Industry sidelabel Cruel Moon have found another exponent of this style in Nova, though their swirling music refuses to let itself be defined by such loose categorization. A teamwork between Romeo Cosser and Chiara Ferrari, Nova have existed since 1997 and already earned several prizes for originality and innovation in national music contests. Their sound sees an interlacement between synths and voice: melancholic electronics and ethnic/tribal percussion paints an emotional backdrop on which lyrics laden with influences from past aesthetical movements such as existentialism, symbolism and the decadents are applied. Nova have good reasons for their ambiguous name, seeing as their style represents something new - "nova" in Italian - to which can be added that this CD will see them rise from local obscurity to international stardom - like an exploding supernova!

CMI.92 MEGAPTERA arrived safely last week but not without problems... due to a manufacturing error the CD-label print have switched places so disc 1 is disc 2 and vice versa!

For your knowledge we can inform you that disc 1 (the first Megaptera LP) was remastered by Peter Andersson (Raison d'être) and disc 2 (the first Megaptera CD) was remastered by Ulf Söderberg (Sephiroth). Comes in a double-CD-digipak with partial glossy varnish and limited to only 2000 copies and it is going fast so buy it now for 140SEK/14 USD or next year for the double on ebay!

BC-006 ATARAXIA - Suenos CD
SUEÑOS ('Dreams' in Spanish) is the title of the long-announced and eagerly awaited new album by ATARAXIA but the onomatopoeic sound reminds also of the English words for 'signs' and 'sounds'. For the first time in ATARAXIA's history this album is not a conceptual album but a collection of new songs with different styles, themes, with different historical backgrounds and many acoustic new instruments. The album has been divided into three parts of 4 songs each: the first (ÎEgo Promitto Dominoâ) features lyrics inspired by journeys and remembrances of mid-eastern lands. The sounds are between neo classical, orchestral for 4 voices and Mediterranean dreamy ambiances. The second part (ÎLâame dâeauâ) is entirely based on Medieval ballads just for acoustic instruments and 2 voices and the Third part (ÎSandy Dunesâ) finally is more intimate and meditative, once again the theme is the one of water linked to the female soul: The voyage through the sea, regret, the need of the sea. Just for Francescaâs heavenly vocals...

BC005 GOTHICA - Night Thoughts CD
GOTHICA reached a stable line-up in 1995, the band takes advantage of Alessandra Santovito (who writes the texts or rather the poems which accompany the music) and Roberto Del Vecchio, misunderstood geniouses who make use of several musicians who play instruments of great charm such as the violin, the flute, the oboe. Released on Cruel Moon.

GOTHICA's music has an origin vaguely in the "depressed gothic", and carries an important middle-Italian tradition of exploring the darkest abysses of music culture, GOTHICA (there has never been a more appropriate name) have created a small, but great masterpiece of atmospheres out of this world, going from elegant executions of melody to terrifying and sinister sepulchral descriptions and to frozen threnodies which come directly from other planets. GOTHICA is eternal beauty, similar to the Dead Can Dance, Ataraxia or even Miranda Sex Garden. Dark, dark days are here again and who really needs the light?

CMI.85 COPH NIA - That Which Remains CD
The recent signings of Cold Meat Industry may have indicated a new direction for the label, one of more outward, nihilistic aggression. But after operating in seclusion for five years, debutants COPH NIA pick up a baton that was never really dropped, as they display a sound firmly rooted in the introspective nord-ambient tradition. Think Lustmord meet Sephiroth meet Raison d'être, all spiced up with moments of delicate polyphony that harken back to goth icons like Dead Can Dance. "That Which Remains" - the result of two years of hard labour - spans topics ranging from death and darkness to passion and reverence, yet a main theme is discernible: the strong belief in the power of the will, both a sword and a shield in the aware individual's perpetual quest for illumination in a secular world about to collapse.

CMI.83 INSTITUT - Great day to get even CD
INSTITUT are one of the spearheads of the new crop of Swedish noise mongers. For several years a wellkept secret among locals as an earth shattering live experience, now also known in wider European circles after successful gigs at the Wave Gothic Treffen in Leipzig (the only CMI act that got to play at this year's fiasco) and Eurorock in Belgium. After a show at the Museum of Art in their hometown of Norrköping, one British chicken for an artist threatened to send his medical bill after claiming that INSTITUT had given him tinnitus. The band members promptly promised to send a copy of this CD in return! Well then, what does this monster sound like, you ask? Here's one voice from the coldmeat mailing list: "Outstandingly vital, harsh, kind of warm sizzling electronics with quite a lot of monotonous rhythms and some additional shouting. This should appeal to both fans of the german Hands label and more regular sick power electronic shitheads"

I see no reason to beat about the bush. This is the third Proiekt Hat album, pressed in an edition of 300 copies - 100 less than the previous LP. The next LP will only be made in 200 copies... You do the maths, and figure out the rest. Maybe it is a pity that so few people will be able to buy this LP, because this is by far the most powerful PROIEKT HAT LP so far. This time the music will give you the thrill of good old power electronics. Not a retro-album at all, hell no, just vital and energizing in the same way as all those early 80's underground tape-masterworks (you know the kind I'm talking about). IRM was featured earlier this year on the CMI-compilation "Estheticks of Cruelty", and this is the first fullength documentation from this industrial outfit. 7 tracks of cathartic power electronics, composed in the good old way. An unpleasant (or maybe appealing?) journey down into the darkest depths of the subconscious. The Beatles did the white album, Boyd Rice did the black, and now the time has come for IRM to deliver the Red one! Dance-charts of the new millenium! Truly to become a new classic release in the Swedish industrial scene.

A new double-CD compilation; over the last years we have finally seen an increased interest for more obscure Industrial and Noise music in Sweden, something that we have embraced with great enthusiasm! With this sampler it is just as much a way to inject some new blood into the scene, do some shit stirring, as it is a chance for new and unknown acts to reach a wider audience. So this compilation turns out to be an unequalled documentation of a new generation of Swedish bands. The music ranges from pure noise, (dark/harsh-) industrial, musique concrete, and power electronics - an explicit odyssey into the sounds of the Swedish oddworld.

CMI.71 PROIEKT HAT - IlluZionist LP
Seemingly coming from nowhere, PROIEKT HAT has quickly found an appreciative audience for the unique music they produce. It has been said that the music of PROIEKT HAT fits perfectly in with the sounds of the other artists on Cold Meat Industry, yet they manage to steer clear of sounding anything like any other CMI name. It is obvious that PROIEKT HAT is a highly personal creation, and we are lucky to be able to experience these, the most private thoughts of HATE...
On the artist's request, "IlluZionist" will only be made available in a limited, numbered edition of 400 copies. The entire 500 copy edition of the first PROIEKT HAT album sold out in just three weeks, so we urge you to act fast if you want this LP! There will be more albums by PROIEKT HAT released on Cold Meat Industry in the future. The next one will be limited to 300 copies, the one after that 200 copies... After that? Can we hope for the end...?

Back at it
An awfully long time has passed since I made any updates to this site, I hope you have all acquired the new catalogue for 1998. If not, contact us and we'll send one your way. The news items below come from that catalogue, so if you already have it, you know them. I have one special treat for you though, thanks to The Soil Bleeds Black, follow the link and it shall be clear. Also, the Mailorder catalogue found here online, that contained a small excerpt of the items in the paper-version of it, now holds the full catalogue! Browse through these goodies and place your order. On to meatier news...
 
In Slaughter Natives
has started to work on a new album, and who knows when it is to be finished, ISN has proven not to be the utmost productive band, but better, on of the top-leading since the start! Other excellent news are that CMI have come to an agreement with Staalplaat to re-release both the first self-ttiled CD (that actually was released on CMI on tape from the beginning), and the latest Purgate my stain CD.
 
The Protagonist
seems to (not without reason) have made a great impact with his magnificent tracks on the Absolute Supper, many requests for an album of course, and so it shall be! The recording should be ready anytime now, and from what we've heard so far it is amazing! Something to really look forward to for an early autumn release.
 
Ordo Equilibrio
is another band entering the studio right now. They are recording their third album at In Slaughter Natives' Re-Enter Salvation studio. The album is planned for May, but who knows, the Triumph of light CD was remixed 3 times so... Title for their third album is "Conquest, Love & Self Perseverance".
 
Sanctum
has just released a beautiful 10" picture disc limited to 1000 copies with a special jacket-cover. Very elegant and classic. A full length followup to "Lupus In Fabula" will take longer than expected as most members seem to be located in different places for studying purposes. To find out more about Sanctum, their own site has found a better home at sanctum.coldmeat.se, visit them!
 
Puissance
has their new album out right now, which I beg you to check out, it is a real beauty and the music is a big step forward from their previous album "Let us lead".
 
Arcana
Peter Petterson of Arcana has started to work on a new album, this time maybe even a double album... we will see... You can see them live in Leipzig or again in waregem, Belgium!
 
Mortiis
What is there to say of the seemingly forever delayed new album Stargate from Mortiis? What we know so far is that he entered the studio in april to start the first recordings... He is also in search of a publisher for his book, so maybe it will finally be published at last. We just re-issued his side-project Cintecele Diavolui Devils songs. CD (originally released on his own Dark Dungeon label), this time in a digipak format to get the ancient feel the 10" had. The Cybertzara label in America recently released a new VOND CD Green eyed demon that is definitely more industrial than anything he has done so far.
 
Sephiroth
Rumours has it that Sephiroth has been involved in the production of the music to the film production of Astrid Lindgrens Kalle Blomkvist - SICK! I saw it a while ago and it was a cute little thing. We also know by the amount of requests we have had of this project that there is a huge interest for an album by this amazing man, and we are happy to reveal that Sephiroth is working on a CD that will be released on Cold Meat, of course.
 
Raison d'être
has gained a lot of popularity, which he so well deserves, but lately also in the metal scene! He has been featured in mags such as Terrorizer, Metal Invader + many other zines. Bloodless Creation in Australia released recently the old Conspectus tape and other material from that period. A great CD which again shows the great talent of Peter Andersson. This man of many projects (Necrophorus, Stratvm Terror, Grismannen, Svasti Ayanam) has now also started a project together with Lina of Deutsch Nepal, seems like the inspiration and also all sound sources come from their mutual interest in Boxholm - the interest may obviously be because they both expire from that odd little town, name for this project is Bocksholm, what else?
 
Speaking of
other projects with Lina we can continue by mentioning the co-operation with Benny Nilsen of Hazard (ex-Morthound). Benny helped out during some Deutsch Nepal live performances, and the good response has made them start up a new project. Benny has also got in contact with a filmmaker in Australia who wants to use his music for soundtracks for some movies. A great opportunity for the Genious Benny!
 
Deutsch Nepal
himself, signed on to a 3 CD contract with Staalplaat some years ago and it seems like the first of them is ready to come any day now, as what we've heard it shall be a bit different, but yet with das typische Deutsch Nepalischer general stab sound. As most of you know by now Lina has moved back to Göteborg to his old usual address.
 
Brighter Death Now
celebrates 10 years this year, and first out in a line of releases is the re-issue of the classical Pain in Progress tape from 1988. A great number of other tracks from the same period has also been included - an odyssé of pain and darkness! The aforementioned double-album May all be Dead is not at this time finished, a couple more tracks need to be added to the misery. a Compilation with the best tracks from the Great Death trilogy will be released shortly, the quotations was made by those who were brave enough to order the 3rd part of the trilogy, the titles and catalogue number will be CMI.60 Greatest Death and released within the nearest month.
 
The Absolute Supper
has been a great success, and reviews have been glorious; 5 out of 5 in Terrorizer, Record of the month with full page feature in the great German magazine Orkus: "Der knüller für alle zu lustigen Gruft-Parties" whatever that means (but it sounds weird, especially with the ears of a Swede), and that, we trust, is only the beginning!
 
Forthcoming
from Cold Meat are a MCD by Ildfrost, BDN Greatest Death CD, a new release on our Death Factory label, this time with the amazingly harsh industrial band Slogun from USA, a re-issue of a tape entitled The pleasure of Death, for Cruel Moon we have the pleasure to release a CD by the magnificent band Ataraxia from Italy - very exiting!
