The stunning, formal debut of Australia's Terra Sancta signifies a triumphant return to the dark ambient roots (Yen Pox, Caul) that established Malignant. Unlike those early releases though, this is music that emanates not from the abyss and catacombs, but rather from far above; a descent from air to earth that comes bearing down with a crushing, cosmic weight, sending out cataclysmic eruptions of blinding sonic dust across an already wind swept and barren landscape. 4 tracks totaling close to 50 minutes , each track aptly named (Cold Light Infusion, Black Sun,Blood Red Sea, Drowned - Desert Earth II), each track a vibrant, isokinetic piece climaxing in tumultuous, majestic patterns, time and time again. Rarely has a dark ambient CD come forth with some much unbridled power and depth, a sound so expansive it blasts forth in wide screen, cinematic proportions. While we won't be so pompous as to say this is an important release (well, we'll say it to ourselves), we can certainly trumpet it as one of the best dark ambient CD debuts we've heard since 'Blood Music' (Yen Pox) or Aldebaran (Inade).
